How Androgyny Ruled at the 5th Philippine Fashion Ball

The setting was the Manila Peninsula Hotel, a venue for many special events and at times a home to the most elite. The show was the 5th Philippine Fashion Ball that features only the best men and women to carry the name “designer” as their profession or to have “fashionable” tagged to their reputation. For this year, the Philippine Fashion Ball gave the center stage to Joey Samson, who host and model Tweetie De Leon-Gonzalez described was a “master of deconstruction and who was able to perfect androgynous designs long before the trend.”

It was only fitting that guests—top influencers, celebrities, designers—were asked to don menswear. Thus, guests put on their best blazers, trousers, and suits in many cuts and interpretations. “Everyone is looking dapper tonight,” said co-host Apples Aberin. Of course, within the crowd, there were a few that truly stood out and perhaps truly imbibed the vision of Joey Samson of fusing the classic aesthetics of menswear with the trend of women’s wear to redefine androgyny.
