It’s been 10 years since Alexander Wang officially entered the fashion world as a label the hottest celebrities and personalities would proudly cop. And sure enough #WANGsquad members like Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, and Kylie Jenner were seen on the front row.
Oversized leather jackets, backless corsets, floor-grazing denim skirts, and mesh details dominated Wang’s latest collection and showed off his mastery in merging high-end ideals with streetwear aesthetics. This was complemented with messy, matted hair and dark, grungy makeup.
According to the designer, he really took stock of what’s he done in the past decade. “We looked back. Let’s bring back the girls that have inspired me over the years. There’s no high concept. There’s no singular theme. It’s about being an individual but also being a part of a tribe.”
After the show, the backdrop was torn down to reveal a strip club-inspired after-party. A showcase of contortionists were seen making their way up poles, Hooters waitresses handed out burgers, and fake dollar bills with Alexander’s face printed on it were scattered on the bathroom floor. A few after-party guests included Tinashe, Ludacris, and Lil’ Wayne who also were the performers of the night.
As Alexander embarks on the next phase of his eponymous label, especially as he signs off from his duties as creative director at Balenciaga, it looks like he’s more than ready to conquer the next 10 years and more.
