We Know How Pia Wurtzbach Did Her Makeup in Miss Universe 2015

We’re still not over it. After that dramatic announcement of Pia Wurtzbach’s win as Miss Universe 2015, we are looking forward to a full year under the German-Filipina’s reign. And, of course, a good way to start is by copping the beauty look she chose for that fateful day.

Anton Patdu, a celebrity makeup artist, was beside his best friend Gery Peñaso who is also a makeup artist when the latter coached Pia over WhatsApp for her makeup look. (Yes, Pia did her makeup by herself!) As someone who has also worked with Pia throughout her training, Anton let us in on the essential steps to getting Pia’s makeup for that night. (Sorry, no crowns after acing it, though.)

#1 Create dramatic eyes without going all-out
As much as it is important to draw attention to our peepers, lining them heavily should be reserved for those who want a full-on vixen look. For Pia, it was about subtle contouring and making the eyes look alive and bigger. She used taupe, brown, and rust shades for eyeshadow, and blended them all together to make them appear soft and natural. For the eyeliner, Anton advises to “put very little eyeliner, almost close to the last line and pair it with [false] lashes and mascara. Do not put any eyeliner on the lower lash line. Instead, use the eyeshadow applied to the crease to line the lower lash line.”

#2 Go for glow
“Pia’s blush is very mineralized and glowing,” explains Anton. He then tells us that it was a combination of two blush shades, placed on the high planes of the face, where light touches them. Yes, there shall be no Kim K contouring needed here. It’s all about looking for the shades that best complement your skin tone and blending them out to create a nice blush-highlight combo. Anton also says that you can use the blush “to highlight certain areas of the face like the cupid’s bow and in the middle of the nose to create the symmetrical glow.”

#3 Keep the lips au naturel
It’s an old trick but it’s clearly one of the best around. Pia topped her look with a nude lip with a hint of pink. To give that extra plump, she applied a clear lip gloss. Anton advises a combo like MAC Lipstick in Taupe or MAC Lipstick in Crème D’Nude combined with MAC Lipstick in Spirit.
