Lady Gaga Produces 16 Covers as Guest Editor of ‘V Magazine’

Lady Gaga may have grabbed the public’s attention with her outlandish outfits in the early aughts, but it’s her undeniable talent that’s got people still watching her, even though her personal style has significantly toned down in the last few years.

Still, despite the subtler image overhaul, she still remains very much close to and inspired by the fashion community that so lent her their support during the early days of her fame. As the guest editor of the upcoming issue of fashion tome V Magazine, she writes, “This issue of V is about all of these people coming together to express a passion for art and fashion, to really ‘go there’ to make a great statement and to change things…I feel like we all share an appetite for living a life of passion and creativity…it’s like we all found our immortality through art and fashion…we share that deep spiritual place.”

This “great statement” that she wanted to make came in the form of 16 covers featuring not only herself, natch, but also the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Hedi Slimane, Daphne Guinness, and the late editor Isabella Blow, who passed away in 2007, and designer Alexander McQueen, who committed suicide in 2010.

“These are people who have kept me and protected me over the years, because they’ve wanted me to survive…that’s part of the message of this issue: we have to carry each other through the decades and take care of one another and honor each other’s work…I am saying thank you to all these people for everything they’ve given to me…I want to make sure the world knows who they are…it’s a guard of people…I call them my Fashion Guard!” she declares.

Shot by Steven Klein, the legendary issue will hit newsstands on Jan. 14, which also features an unprecedented sit-down between Karl and Hedi, two of the most influential names in fashion right now. Of this coup, Gaga writes, “For this issue, I wanted nothing more than to have one story, just one, that my children & the future of fashion would remember forever.”

Who was it that insinuated that print is dead again?
