World-class architect Zaha Hadid recently passed away at just 65 years old—the creative world is devastated. She is one powerful female architect that pushed boundaries and we are truly at a loss of amazing talent and creativity.
She suffered a heart attack in a hospital in Miami where she was being treated for bronchitis. The heart attack that took her life was sudden.
Just last February, Zaha became the first female to receive the gold medal from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) as a recognition of her work. In the past years, she has also won the RIBA Stirling Prize, UK’s most prestigious award, twice: In 2010 for her work in Maaxi Contemporary Art Museum in Rome, and in 2011 for the Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton.
The Architectural Digest put together a slideshow in 2015 featuring 11 of her striking designs including the London Aquatic Center that was built for the Olympics.
She really broke the ceiling for female architects around the world and she will forever be remembered.
