Why Is Gigi Hadid Playing a Mom in Newest Versace Ad?

Over the weekend, you may have noticed how Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid are playing power moms in their latest campaigns for Versace. It’s a bit of a stretch considering the kids in the ad are around 7 years old which means Gigi and Karlie had them when they were teenagers?

Unlike the usual shoots where models depict an unattainable, mannequin-perfect life, Versace is trying to appeal to the power women. In an interview with The New York Times, Donatella Versace shares of the photos, “For me, this was kind of a turning point, Versace’s image is so much about the red carpet. But I wanted to make day clothes appear fierce. You know: She’s a superstar, and she runs her business, and she runs her family too. Fashion is a part of life, and I thought it was important to show it could be a part of many different lives…It’s not about creating beautiful illusions anymore.”

However, it feels that the attempt to relate to moms falls a little short. They could have casted supermodels who are already actual moms at the very least. (Shout out to Gisele and Heidi!) And if having a family is all about looking good, all dressed up in Versace, we’d say Donatella is still all about creating beautiful illusions rather depicting reality.
