How to Cook Tikoy Like a #GirlBoss

Waking up to a plateful of tikoy on Chinese New Year morning always makes me giddy. We often eat it for breakfast every year before deciding on where we should go to watch a lion dance or fireworks display.

Tikoy (also known as nian gao is a staple during the Lunar New Year because it symbolizes a promise of a better year ahead. This includes higher income, position, and growth of children—things every working gal and girl boss would wish for.

So here’s our contribution to the celebration: an easy tikoy recipe for all the girl bosses out there. Take note of these as you buy the ingredients in the supermarket.

Tikoy

Ingredients
1 box of tikoy (any flavor)
1-2 eggs
Cooking oil

Procedure
1. Slice the tikoy into strips. Make sure they can fit in your frying pan.
2. Break an egg in a bowl and beat it.
3. Heat the oil in the frying pan.
4. Dip and coat the tikoy strips with the beaten egg.
5.  Fry the strips for one to two minutes on each side.
6. Let them cool down on a plate. It’s best to place a paper towel underneath to absorb the excess oil.
7. Serve and enjoy!
