5 Local Bag Brands that Made Their Way Abroad

Filipino-made bags are breaking out in the international market. Thanks to social media, local bag designers are reaching more people across the globe, and getting recognized abroad. It’s not just their designs that catch their eye, but also the materials used. Pineapple fiber and abaca aren’t commonly found overseas, hence, the fascination on items made from these fabrics.

That said, we direct the spotlight on local bag brands which are already found at well-known retailers from US to UAE. Most were already featured in major publications which gives them more visibility to foreign customers.

Zacarias 1925

As we were scrolling through Instagram, we saw Zacarias 1925 announcing that their Creel Wicker Soldiur Bag is now available on Bloomingdale’s website. This bag is made of straw and leather, and it looks like a basket you can sling on your arm.

Aranáz

From Manila to Dubai, you can’t miss Aranáz’s signature Piña clutch and straw bags. Their items are currently available at Selfridges, Shop Latitude, Five Story in NYC, and Harvey Nichols in Dubai. They’ve also been featured in Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vogue. Oh, and Queen Mathilde of Belgium was also spotted carrying their Ginto minaudiere.

Ken Samudio

You can’t miss Ken Samudio’s distinct design which is mostly inspired by ocean life. His colorful clutches and rope-like backpacks were recognized at the YOOX Net-a-Porter YES Awards in 2015. Likewise, his clutch also got him a spot as Vogue Italia‘s accessories talents in 2014. You can find his creations at Harvey Nichols in Dubai and Hong Kong, as well as in Adorn USA.

Beatriz

You know you’ve made it when Oprah Winfrey tags your bag as a favorite. Beatriz’s Tropical Edge clutch got that honor when she was included in Oprah’s Favorite Things last Christmas. But before all this, Beatriz is already selling in countries like the MoMA Store in New York, Kika Style, Inc. in Tokyo, and Unica Concept Store in Corso.

Rocio Ltd.

This British brand got its name from Filipino designer Rocio Olbes. She’s originally known for weaving patterns on fabric. Now, the brand extended their line of bags and clutches with pastel hues and wooden materials. Rocio was also featured in Vogue Italia back in 2014, and celebs like Kate Upton and Aidy Bryant flaunted their clutches at red carpet events.
