How Nicole Whisenhunt Makes Traditional Designs Fresh Again

Nicole Whisenhunt’s new collection, A Regal Affair, launched today and it shows an evolution of the jewelry designer’s creations. From the clean and simple silhouettes as seen in her Poetry in Roses collection, this has more ornate details.

“My collection is inspired by medieval architecture and themes. I looked at the crown, the scepter and the sword, also a knight’s armor,” shares Nicole to Preen. What this produced are necklaces and rings with small fleur de lis details, shoulder grazers made of white crystals and 18k gold, and necklaces with pearl chains. “I have always been a huge fan of pearls,” says Nicole. “I have often been simple with my designs but for this one, I wanted to become more elaborate.”

Nicole dots pearls along with diamonds on rings that tell of extravagance. However, the way she scaled them down for everyday use makes them quite wearable. Crucifix pendants, usually gaudy when seen on traditional pieces, can now easily be worn to dress up a flirty slip dress. For those who want to echo the small luxuries of a princess, one can opt for white gold rings with diamonds. Other elements that play in Nicole’s collection are amethysts, blue sapphires, and garnets.

Joanna Preysler appreciates this, “I like that her designs are very understated but functional. I love how Nicole uses a lot of diamonds in her collection also.” Malou Romero of Joanique sums it up as she tells us what she likes about Nicole’s designs, “It’s always classic with a modern twist.”
