The Philippine International Furniture Show or PIFS opens today, and while the four-day expo will receive visitors from over 70 countries, including the USA, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, Germany, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and India, there’s no reason you shouldn’t elbow your way in as well and see our local furniture designers show off.

Curated by interior designer J. Antonio Mendoza, over 200 companies have been invited to showcase their wares. Launched in 2014, PIFS has the distinction of being the only event organized “by the industry itself, for the industry.”

“PIFS is our opportunity to show the world and our colleagues at home how we interpret world trends and in many cases take the lead in design innovation,” Christina Gaston, PIFS event chairman, says.

One of the highlights of this year’s show is the participation of Mary McDonald and Nathan Turner of hit TV show Million Dollar Decorators. On display at various locations in the expo are some of their favorite pieces, personally selected by them before the show opened to the public.

Today, they will be holding a free seminar at The Hub, located at the center of the show, wherein they will discuss global trends in interior design, along with the role of Filipino furniture in international settings.

Anton Mendoza, creative director of PIFS, also presents “Interior Lifestyle Vignettes,” artfully combining elements from Philippine history together with contemporary furniture.

We took a tour ourselves and rounded up some pieces you should definitely check out in person when you hit the show. Who knows? You just might be compelled to show-off a piece or two in your own home.
