Liz Uy Reveals Manila’s Fashion Secrets to ‘Vogue’

Liz Uy gets another feature on Vogue. This time, she shares her guide to shopping and dressing in Manila.

In the interview, Liz says that Filipinos are often laidback with their fashion choices because of the tropical climate. But she notes that we also know how to play with color and accessories. “Filipinos are generally very happy people. Living in yearlong summer is evident in our intense love for vibrant colors and patterns,” she says. “We may be laid-back, but we can turn up the volume when we’re given the opportunity. We love a good statement piece and know the importance of good wardrobe basics.”

For the summer, Liz suggests that comfy jeans and flats are must-haves. “The personality is in the wash and in the fit. The more faded and loose, the better,” she says.

“There was a time when some Filipinas towered in height, always clad in heels so high they sacrificed comfort for extra height. But now, they have found a way to stay grounded,” Liz adds.

When the rainy season rolls in, Liz says to not be afraid to play with layers. “I try my best to go crazy with the layers. Yup, layering in the tropics!”

She also divulges where one can scout for items from fashion to home. Her list includes Karrivin Plaza, Power Plant Mall, Shop LCP, Greenbelt, and Greenhills Shopping Center. For local designers, she names Carl Jan Cruz, Vivien Ramsay, Joey Samson, and Rafé Totengco.

So if you ever need quick style advice—whether you’re a local or a tourist—just take note of Liz’s tips.
