5 Recipes to Try for the Labor Day Weekend

Is this weekend the universe’s way of making up for all the bad things we had to endure in the past month? It’s like there’s a small conspiracy that Labor Day weekend gets a day extra as work has been suspended for the ASEAN Summit.

For those of us who don’t have plans to hit up the beach or destinations like Taiwan, the weekend offers us a good excuse to pick up on the hobbies we’ve left behind. And whether you can cook or not, knowing how to make a dish or two has its advantages. Like the assurance you won’t starve if you’re ever left alone in the house. Or it’s something you can bring to the next pot luck dinner with your friends.

The point I am trying to make here is that given the long weekend, try to preoccupy yourself with something new. Don’t be that person who moans on Monday night because they did not do anything productive over the weekend. To get you started, here are some video tutorials you can tune in to to whip up something special in the kitchen.

#1 Gordon Ramsay’s Scrambled Eggs

Sure, it’s easy to make some scrambled eggs. But doing it like Gordon is a different topic. He takes the pan on and off the fire, and knows just when to put the cream for that restaurant-style fluffiness. Between the pan technique and worrying how you eat the eggs, this also doubles as arm exercise.

#2 Claire Marshall’s Simplified Bibimbap

So maybe aiming to be like a TV chef is too much to start with. Let’s go for something more relatable. Content creator Claire Marshall shows you how the single girl can pull off a kick-ass bibimbap. It’s healthy and easy enough so you can make it for your dinner with a side of binge-watching.

#3 Nigella Lawson’s Lemon Pavlova

If you’re up to impress your friends, why not try some pavlova like #lifepeg Nigella Lawson. Envision yourself in her fancy life and feel that goddess of the kitchen vibe. Then reward yourself with something sweet. Do I really need to say more?

#4 Chef Roble’s Five Ingredient Dinner

You might be overwhelmed with baking or you’re just not in the mood for dessert. Why not have a healthy dinner that won’t break the bank and won’t need a lot of effort to taste and look good? You’re in luck with this Refinery29 recipe for a delicious salmon dinner.

#5 Gemma Stafford’s Starbucks Secret Menu

If you need something easy for this hot weather, bring the chill of the coffee shop to your home. Gemma Stafford shares Banana Split, Oreo, and Birthday Cake frappe recipes. Sugar rush? Yes! Will you regret this during your next workout? Maybe. But it’s the weekend so maybe this can be your cheat day treat.
