4 Healthy Alternatives For When You’re Craving Cake and Chocolate

Candy

Kids and adults alike love candy. From sour gummy worms to sweet lollipops, a piece of candy can make anyone’s day. But in terms of nutritional content, it doesn’t do you any good. It is loaded with refined sugar and does not contain any vitamins or minerals. So, when you’re in the mood for some candy, have some trail mix instead. There are many variations of this snack with a mix of dried fruit, nuts, and cacao nibs, it is sure to satisfy your craving.

Soda

We all know that soda is bad for us but sometimes we can’t help but have a can or two. A can of soda has bout 10 teaspoons of sugar. If that isn’t enough for you to put it down, it also has artificial sweeteners, which can result in high blood sugar and raised cholesterol. For those times you want a sweet drink, add some fruits to your water. Totally customizable, you can add lemons, blueberries, and strawberries to your already healthy glass of water.

Chocolate

When you’re in line at the grocery and have the urge to grab that chocolate bar by the checkout counter, try to stop yourself. The amount of refined sugar added to chocolate bars drowns out the healthy components of the cocoa. Instead, try organic dark chocolate or even cacao nibs. It is a good source of antioxidants and can improve blood flow.

Cake

Unless you’re celebrating something, put the slice of cake down. A lot of sugar goes into the cake itself as well as the frosting and other cake decorations like sugar pearls and chocolate. A healthy alternative to this sweet treat is banana bread. Use some whole wheat flower and throw in some crushed nuts for a healthy snack.
