Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Prada’s Resort 2018 Shows Give a Lesson on Layering

Resortwear runways often set the tone on what we should expect for summer this year and the next. This week, fashion houses gave us a variety of styles based on several inspirations and cultures. While not all pieces are particularly summer-appropriate, we’re eyeing the layering methods used in certain ensembles.

We’re not saying you should use the same heavy fabrics that were showcased. Rather, let it be your guide to layer pieces from flowy cardigans to long necklaces.

Christian Dior

Inspired by artist Georgia O’Keeffe, Dior channeled her Western roots to its resort collection. Each piece was a cowgirl’s dream with tassels, fringes, and pops of red, orange, and yellow. Also spotted were fresher ensembles including this sheer white dress. This is best for those days when you feel like wearing a bralette to the mall or the beach.

Prada

Prada for a more chic route with workwear-inspired pieces with assymmetrical details. For a younger look in the workplace, wear a pastel polo shirt under a sleeveless bodycon dress. Complete the look with sleek boots or heels, and a chunky belt to cinch the waist.

Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton’s Japanese-themed collection showcased bold prints and contrasting textures. Like this dress and vest combo, for example. The black studded leather nicely tones down the fun, feminine prints on the dress—adding an edginess to the ensemble. Complete the look with a sharp cat eye, and you’re ready for that party.

Just Cavalli

If you’re into the grunge style, follow Just Cavalli’s lead and wear fishnets with your high-waisted shorts. Sneakers and boots are welcome for this look.

Dion Lee

Australia was Dion Lee’s main inspiration for its collection. This resulted in flowy pieces that look like waves, as well as colorful swimsuits that match the country’s climate. One way to cover up while chilling on the beach is to wear a bright-colored poncho over your bikini or one-piece.

Chanel

Chanel didn’t hold back with its collection fit for a Greek goddess. To accessorize the ethereal dresses, long necklaces were layered to add more sparkle to each piece. Don’t be afraid to mix and match beads, crystals, and colors!
