What to Wear If Ever You’re Invited to SONA?

One of the few questions I never thought I would ask myself: What would I wear if ever invited to a big political event like #SONA2017? You never know, given the happenings we’ve witnessed recently, anything is possible.

There’s a slight panic that comes when you have to decide on what to wear. How many mornings did you find yourself scrambling what to wear to work? For something like the SONA, you have to balance looking reputable without stealing the show. Remember: You’re showing respect for this important occasion, upholding a key factor of our democratic process. And to think that figuring out what to do when the invite says “formal chic” was already hard.

Good thing we’ve got the best dressed from this year’s #SONA2017 to help us out.

Cong. Baby Arenas

What made this ensemble from Cong. Arenas work was how she committed to the theme. From the green pantsuit of the thick embroidered shawl, it looks like there was research involved in the look which gave its Muslim-inspiration proper homage.

Yanee Alvarez

On the other hand, you can  pick one aspect from the theme if you can’t go all out. This is why the jewel-tone of Yanee’s top with the feather fringe was just right for the occasion.

Gladys Villanueva

Never doubt the power of black. It’s appropriate especially in formal occasions. And always, always be conscious of your accessories. From a simple power ensemble, the pendant Gladys chose gave it that Muslim twist.

Juliana Gomez

With this outfit, it seems that Juliana has the potential to be a fashion icon. She picked a fun yet appropriate look in soft colors perfect for the daytime.

Rep. Emmeline Aglipay Villar

Just because it’s a political event, doesn’t mean you can’t hop on to a trend, especially if it’s still within theme. This fringe Rhett Eala worked for Rep. Villar as she chose colors that complemented her skintone.

Jinkee Pacquiao

What I liked about Jinkee’s choices for today’s SONA was how she stuck to a monochromatic color scheme despite integrating floral prints.

Cong. Tiff Gatchalian and Cong. Trina Enverga

When in doubt, always opt for the classic butterfly-sleeved Filipiniana. It’s the safe choice and if you know how to pick on the right detail, you’ll be on point. Great fit also matters.

Heart Evangelista

If Hillary Clinton taught us one thing (but she taught us so much more) is that a pantsuit is always a good choice for a political event. Heart seems to be a student of Hillary in this Boom Sason creation. A+ marks given to the print and to the woven clutch.
