Why the Runway Supermodel Reunion Is the Ultimate Tribute to Gianni Versace

If there is one thing Versace never shied away from, it’s making a statement. Donatella Versace’s tribute show for brother Gianni on the 20th anniversary of his murder, reunited supermodels or “supers” Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen, and Carla Bruni.

The five supermodels, the original women who elevated model to a celebrity status walked arm in arm with Donatella for the final look. They were clad in Versace’s signature gold dresses, featuring draping that Gianni was also known for. They walked to the tune of George Michael’s “Freedom” which was also a throwback to Gianni’s 1991 show where the supers walked while George Michael sat front row.

In the press conference before the show, Donatella revealed how the models got along backstage. “They have a green room each, but they are running in and out of each other’s rooms all day. And because they are walking together, they are arguing about who gets the middle, just like old days.”
