Emily Ratajkowski’s Bold Wing Doesn’t Need Gel Liner

Creating the perfect winged liner is often challenging. Not all of us are blessed to have the skill to achieve this every time we do our makeup. And no, it doesn’t take a pizza cutter tip to make it difficult.

It’s easy to skip this bit, but for those who like bold eye looks, model-actress Emily Ratajkowski has a solution. During the recent Vogue Paris party, she rocked a brownish red wing created with eyeshadow. To make sure you don’t mess up this look, we asked makeup artist Jigs Mayuga for some tips to apply this. We’re also suggesting products to help you.

#1 Build it up

Applying bold eyeshadows can go awry if you’re not careful. Jigs suggests that you do it step by step. “[Build] the color slowly from the outer corners of the upper lash line to just below the tail of the brows [with] a blending brush.”

#2 Apply mattes first

“Using a warm medium orange in a matte texture, deposit the color one layer at a time to keep the shadow soft and blended.”

#3 Intensify

Pick up a deeper shade like brown or black to add definition to the corners. Jigs also advised to apply more metallic and warmer shades on the lids and lower lash line.

#4 Is tape needed?

We see lots of beauty gurus using tape to create a sharp wing. But according to Jigs, this isn’t needed when copping Emily’s look. “It’s not a solid graphic wing so using tape will not create the same blended effect.”

#5 Finishing touches

“[Apply] falsies with slightly longer strands on the outer corners and lots of mascara on the upper and lower lashes.”

#6 What to shop for this look

If you’re done jotting down Jigs’ tips, it’s time to shop for the right warm-toned eyeshadow palette. It’s better to choose a palette which has all the elements mentioned above like mattes and metallics. You can also experiment with bronzey shades to make your wing.
