This year has been all about comfort when it comes to shoes. Women like Rihanna and Gal Gadot are opting to pair sneakers and flats with their eveningwear. “Ugly” shoes like Birks and Crocs are also making a comeback. But it’s safe to say that the popular choice as of recent is the backless loafer.
There are different variations of loafers in the past few years, going from being a dad shoe to a closet staple. However, we have Gucci to thank for coming out with a fur-lined Princetowns that every fashion girl goes crazy for. (More on that later.) Forbes also listed them as one of the “shoes to watch in 2017,” noting that backless loafers are “the perfect wardrobe addition if your feet tend to get sore, blistered, or raw after wearing certain shoes.”
At this point, it seems the trend isn’t going anywhere yet. So you still have time to shop our picks below.
Gucci Princetown Leather Slipper
These slides are are the It-shoes worn by personalities like Marc Jacobs, Vanessa Hudgens, and Georgina Wilson. Each pair is made from leather with lamb fur lining and has Gucci’s signature horsebit detail. Pair these with anything from jeans to dresses. Available on Net-a-Porter.
Zara Embroidered Velvet Slides
The blue velvet material gives these loafers a regal look and a comfy feel. (It also reminds me of Lana Del Rey’s song of the same title.) The toe has a white peacock embroidery, as well as small studs. Available at Power Plant Mall.
River Island Croc Embossed Backless Loafers
If you want a combination of faux fur and studs in one shoe, go for this River Island loafer. It has a rounded toe and fur lining, but not as fuzzy as the Gucci slides. The silver studs also give off an edgy vibe, perfect for your all-black outfits. Available at SM Aura Premier.
Zalora Satin Slide Loafers
Wear these red Zalora loafers and add color to any look. The satin finish gives them a smooth finish while the inner part is made from comfy synthetic material. Available at Zalora PH.
Tod’s Gommino Loafers
These backless loafers are different from Tod’s traditional Gomminos. Made from tan suede, they have a rounded toe and fringe and tassel details. They also have collapsible heels so you can easily pack it in your bag or luggage. Available on Farfetch.
Charles & Keith Pink Buckle Flat Mules
This pair has a slightly darker shade than the usual millennial pink. It also has a gold buckle for a subtle shiny detail. You can wear this with a monochromatic outfit or a pastel ensemble. Available at Greenbelt 5.
Bally Janelle Women’s Leather Slipper
This doubles as a regular loafer and a backless one. Inspired by Moroccan babouches, it can be worn by flattening the heel part and also comfortable to wear. Each pair has a retro vibe to them and comes in several colors, including this off white one. Available online.
