High Shine Gloss Is the Beauty Trend We’re Bringing With Us to 2018

Look through your pile of lip products, how many tubes of matte lipstick do you have? Or matte liquid lipsticks? In the past two years mattes have been taking over the makeup world. Matte finish foundations became popular and lip products followed suit.

This year, with cult brands like Glossier releasing dewy-finish products, lip gloss has been making a comeback. Mac has been following the trend with the release of their Grand Illusion Glossy Liquid Lipcolour collection. It features bold colors like green, orange, and yellow.

Celebrities have also caught the gloss bug with Kim Kardashian launching her Ultralight Beams high shine glosses in copper and silver shades.

This article wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t mention Fenty Beauty. With the launch of her line, she had the universal Gloss Bomb. She then released a second round of glosses as part of her galaxy collection.

Glossy lips have also been featured on magazine covers. Model Adwoa Aboah sported a glossy red lip on the cover of this month’s British Vogue.

This trend was also seen on the runway. For Giambattista Valli’s couture fall collection, models donned shimmery orange eyeshadow and “super-saturated red gloss.”

As we welcome a new year, let’s bring this lip trend with us with these picks.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer Lipgloss

With over 20 shades, this gloss from Marc Jacobs offers lasting wear and shine. Unlike other glosses, this one doesn’t feel sticky one the lips. It also gives a plumping effect and has a mint scent. Available on Sephora.

Victoria Beckham Estée Lauder Lip Gloss in Fired Crystal

Enhance any lipstick shade that you own by swiping this gloss on top. You can also wear it on its own, leaving a “water-shine effect” on your lips. Available at Shangri-La Plaza.

Urban Decay Lip Junkie Lipgloss

Trade in your go-to red lipstick for a lip gloss option. This one from Urban Decay has a bold color and has a shiny finish. It also has a vanilla-mint flavor that isn’t too overpowering. Available on Calyxta.

VMV Hypoallergenics Lip Gloss

To match your dewy-looking skin, grab this dewy-finish lip gloss from VMV. Aside from adding shine to your pout, it protects it with titanium dioxide and iron oxde pigments. It also nourishes lips as it is enriched with green tea and coconut oil. Available at Glorietta 4.
