Where Can You Find the Right Foundation Shade?

I was over this Rihanna vs Kylie Jenner feud as soon as it started. Others aren’t giving it a rest as Kylie Cosmetics’ Skin Concealers will be available tomorrow. People are comparing the lines 30-shade range with Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation which has 40 shades. Apparently, we live in a world where we can only have nice things if we pit women up against the other.

Can’t we all just get along and acknowledge how the beauty world is stepping up it’s game? Or would you rather compare Kylie’s Silver Series bullet lipsticks with Rihanna’s Mattemoiselle?

For us, we would rather do our research and look at makeup brands that also offer a wide selection of shades. If I ever have a qualm about this whole ordeal, it’s how both makeup brands are only available online for us. When it comes to foundation, I prefer to be able to swatch it. So if you’re up to go shade hunting, here are some options for you.

Maybelline FitMe! Foundation

Number of Shades Available: 40

I was one of the many people who was excited to hear that the FitMe! line came to the Philippines. The Matte and Poreless Foundation quickly became a vanity staple with its light formula yet medium to full coverage. You can tell they didn’t scrimp on the pigment as most of the time you need to just set this foundation with a translucent powder. Available at The Landmark, TriNoma.

L’Oreal True Match Foundation

Number of Shades Available: 33

This is one is oldie but a goodie. The thin almost watery consistency can easily fool you into thinking there’s little coverage to these bottles. One swipe with your foundation brush with tell you otherwise. I remember picking up my first bottle in college and using it to the very end because it’s not heavy on the skin or sticky. It’s a go-to for beginners and a reliable one for professionals. Do use a setting spray with this one as I find it’s not as long-wearing compared to other foundations. Available at SM Makati.

Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation

Number of shades available: 40

This one is perhaps one of the most full-coverage of the bunch. It’s HD for a reason, after all. If you don’t believe us, just watch any beauty vlogger tutorial and this foundation is bound to make an appearance. You’ll notice it’s great under bright lights and caters to those who don’t mind a mask of makeup for full-glam looks. Double-cleansing after is definitely required at the end of the day with this one. Available at SM Mega Fashion Hall.

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation

Number of shades available: 20

Rarely do I hear that a foundation is good enough to be worn every day. This luminous foundation from NARS claims just that as they combined makeup with some skincare. The Sheer Glow Foundation comes with the NARS Complexion Brightening Formula that “…leaves skin hydrated, more luminous, softer and smoother.” It does the job via antioxidants and turmeric (yes, the spice) to do the job. Available at Greenbelt 5.

DiorSkin Forever Perfect Makeup

Number of shades available: 24

If you like something that’s just medium in coverage but long-wearing, this one is for you. This is said to deliver 16-hours of wear and SPF 35 broad spectrum. Its finish is best for those who love a matte look but with just a little luminosity so you don’t look flat. Available at SM Makati.

MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation

Number of shades available: 53

If MAC can handle the makeup requirements of all the Miss Universe contestants, they need to get their shade range right. Among their different foundation formulas, this powder compact stands out with 53 shades. The powder promises 12-hour wear for a matte, non-streaky finish. It also stays true to color even after contact with your skin and is photo-friendly so you can stop worrying about having a white cast. Available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source, Shangri-La Mall.
