Rihanna and Rita Ora Are Making Bathrobes and Towels Fashionable

The search for comfortable clothing is never-ending. Some years back, athleisure burst into the fashion scene and continues to be a go-to for dressing down. Then last year, sleepwear became a street style staple. What’s the next best thing? Answer: bathleisure.

This Instagram-worthy trend began because of Rihanna’s Vogue Paris November 2017 cover where she was wearing a yellow bodysuit and a striped towel wrapped on her head. The Cut coined the term “bathleisure” to describe RiRi’s look, as well as Rita Ora’s iconic MTV EMA look in which she wore a white terry cloth bathrobe and towel by Palomo Spain.

Former 2NE1 member CL also rocked a long white bathrobe at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund awards. This piece was from Vaquera.

Leandra Medine from Man Repeller also tried the trend and showed various ways you can accessorize a regular bath towel. These include chunky necklaces and bracelets, statement earrings, and retro cat-eye sunglasses.

Bathleisure may seem mundane but you can’t deny how cozy it looks. It also gives you an excuse to confidently go out in your robe and/or towel—be it in the city or at a beach spot. We’ve got some recommendations on what you can wear to follow this trend.

Hanro Hooded Terry Robe

Dress like Rita and wear a bodysuit underneath this white Hanro robe. It’s made with white terry which is soft and velvety to the touch. You can loosen up the belt to make an improvised thigh-high slit, or you can tighten it for a trench coat-like look. Available on Net-a-Porter.

Bath Canopy Home Finesse Bath Towel

Pair your white bathrobe with this Bath Canopy Home towel. This will come to good use when you’re having a bad hair day. Available at Rustan’s Makati.

Victoria’s Secret Sleepover Knit Robe

For something that you can layer on your t-shirt and jeans, go for this navy blue robe. It’s lightweight so you can wear it under the sun, and also has a sash belt to cinch your waist. Available at Newport Mall.

H&M Home Jacquard-Weave Bath Towel

Add a pop of color by wrapping your hair in this baby pink towel. It also has square patterns and is soft to the touch. Available at SM Makati.

Aquis Lisse Luxe Hair Turban

If you don’t want to wear a towel on your head, you can go for a turban. This one from Aquis can hold your hair no matter its length, all you need is to twist it around three to four times and secure it. This is also ideal for days when you have no time dry your hair. Available on Sephora PH.
