Net Bags Have Upgraded From Carrying Groceries to High Fashion

I recently got a net bag (or rope bag, if that’s what you call it) at a work event and thought, “This actually looks stylish.” This type of bag is usually associated with carrying produce from the market. But today, it’s getting an upgrade as it’s being used at the beach and even fashion week.

Vogue spotted this trend last year and called it a “cheap-and-chic antidote to the luxury handbag.” London Fashion Week attendees sported the bag as they walked down the streets.

Designer brands like Vetements and Hillier Bartley also put out net bags last year and this year.

For the beach, Kimi Juan posted on Instagram how she uses it to carry her essentials. Plus it’s also made with sustainable materials.

There are several ways you can use a net bag in your everyday life. We listed a few items below and where you can sport them—from the workplace to music festivals.

Staud Moreau Two-Tone Macramé and Leather Bucket Bag

Where to bring: The office

We know this bag looks kinda like a bucket with a net around it. But when you’re going to work, you’ll need a spacious bag for all your stuff. This Staud bag is inspired by fisherman nets and the “bucket” inside is made with red leather. This is also a great pop of color for the corporate ladies out there. Available on Net-a-Porter.

Zara Sack Shoulder Bag

Where to bring: Brunch dates

You can alternate from a shoulder bag to a handbag with this Zara item. It has tassels on the bottom and it’s big enough to fit your makeup kit, cellphone, and maybe even your take-out from the brunch. We also see this being paired with a breezy blouse and jeans combo, or with a summer dress. Available at Power Plant Mall.

Sesura Summer Staple Mesh Bag

Where to bring: While running errands

This Sesura bag comes with a zip pouch bag that you can remove. This makes it easier for you to transfer items from one bag to another. Plus, this allows you to use the net for your shopping needs. Available on Zalora PH.

Mango Net Bag

Where to bring: The beach

Nothing screams “summer” than with a bright mustard bag. You can bring your waterproof beauty kit in this, your towel, and even an extra swimsuit like Kimi did. What’s great about this color choice is that it’ll match any swimsuit and give your look a sunny vibe. Available at Greenbelt 5.

OuterlineShop French Market Bag

Where to bring: An outdoor music festival

This bag is hand-dyed to create a colorful ombré effect. It’s described as lightweight and sturdy so you can carry several items with no problem at all. The unique design makes us want to carry it to a summer music festival here or abroad. Available on Etsy.
