Get nostalgic and wear your favorite childhood cartoon through designer pieces

There continues to be a demand for cartoon collaborations in fashion. In the past, we’ve seen characters like My Little Pony on almost everything, from fast fashion to major labels like Moschino. As 2018 rolled in, we saw more of our childhood favorites being highlighted by well-known brands.

What’s with this fascination anyway? WGSN Insider said that brands saw the growing market for items that tap into people’s nostalgia. Meanwhile, Heroine theorized that fashion labels capitalize on fantasy—either making it child-friendly or going a darker route—during dismal times. Especially now that we’re facing political issues and other controversies in the world.

Whatever your reason for copping these pieces, there’s sure to be a collab that will remind you of your childhood. Check out our list and shop the pieces that catch your attention.

Furla x Hello Kitty Crossbody Bag in Ruby

Furla revamped their Metropolis crossbody bag for their Hello Kitty collab. This ruby-colored bag is printed with white daisies and images of Hello Kitty. It has gold hardware and a chain strap. Available at Central Square.

Puma x Barbie Suede

The classic Puma Suede got a black and pink makeover with a big bow on the heel. The collaboration with Barbie is said to have a full line of footwear and apparel later this year. According to WWD, this will mostly cater to young girls and women (who are still probably obsessed with anything from Mattel).

Lazy Oaf x Betty Boop Long Sleeve T-Shirt

Earlier this year, British brand Lazy Oaf released a Betty Boop collection. The pieces were decorated with Betty’s face and logo, as well as bows and hearts to keep up with the character’s girly aesthetic. Based on the brand’s offerings, there are also unisex pieces like this light blue long-sleeved top. So that’s proof that Betty Boop isn’t just for women. Available online.

Coach x Disney: A Dark Fairy Tale Snow White Tote

As part of the “A Dark Fairy Tale” collection, Coach incorporated elements from Disney films Sleeping Beauty and Snow White onto clothing and accessories. Instead of the usual cutesy design, pieces come in gloomier hues and have edgier embellishments. This tote bag, for example, has red poison apple skulls all over and an image of Snow White looking frightened in the dark forest. Available online.

Uniqlo UT x Takashi Murakami Short-Sleeve Graphic T-Shirt

Takashi Murakami, the man behind the kid’s show Doraemon, recently collaborated with Uniqlo and came out with a collection of UT graphic shirts. You can choose from in-your-face Doraemon tops like this pink shirt, or one with tiny embroideries of the characters for a subdued design. Available at SM Makati.

Chiara Ferragni x Minnie Mouse Bow Mules

If you love Minnie Mouse and her oversized bows, then you’ll adore Chiara Ferragni’s shoe collection. She mostly designed glittery mules that feature Minnie’s face, gloved hands, and her iconic bow. The one above is a black and ruby red backless mule which is made of suede and has a low heel. Wear this with your best frilly dress or even with jeans. Available on Shop Disney.

Vans x Spongebob Squarepants Slip-On LX

Vans is known for their character collaborations throughout the years. This year, they worked with Nickelodeon to come out with a line of Spongebob Squarepants shoes. Their classic Slip-Ons have options featuring either Spongebob or Patrick. The brand also went the extra mile to put a squashed-up Plankton on the soles. Available at select Vans stores.
