Housewarming gifts for your newly-independent friend

If your friend has decided to join the adult world and become a homeowner, support her in this exciting time in her life. Moving in can be hectic and stressful so it’s important you show her you’ve got her back, in any way you can. One of the things you can do is help fill up her house with stuff she really needs, or ones that will really make it feel like home.

When she finally shows off her pad, bring over one or two of these gifts to officially celebrate the big undertaking.

Kitchenware/Tableware

The basics include cutlery, plates, cups, and pots and pans. Inject a burst of energy in their cooking and dining experience through kitchen and tableware with playful patterns or bright colors like this fun stoneware set from Habitat Manila. Available at Glorietta 3.

Kitchen appliances

Your friend will be over the moon if you decide on giving them appliances that’ll make their life so much easier, like a rice cooker, coffee maker, or toaster. This pastel one from Smeg will instantly add character to their kitchen. Available at Park Terraces.

Food

Help them adjust to being on their own. You can bring them something they can easily reheat, or some homemade cookies to munch on. If you don’t have the time, drop by Marks and Spencer and grab one or two of their yummy mini bites. Available at SM Aura Premier

Linen

Keep her warm and cozy with essentials like pillows, towels, blankets. As a prank you can customize a pillowcase with your face printed on it, so it feels like they always have company. Or, spruce up their space with these candy-colored ones from Heima. Available at 103 Three Brixton Street, Pasig City.

Speakers

Living alone can get lonely. Help them keep away deafening silence through a good set of speakers, preferably one that’s water-resistant so they can bring it with them to the shower. The JBL Charge 3 can do the trick. Available at Bonifacio Hight Street Lane P, Taguig.

Indoor plants

The presence of a living thing will bring warmth to their space. Put them in a cute planter box so they get extra love and attention. Take your pick from Gawa ni Femi’s quirky, hand painted potheads inspired by icons like Andy Warhol. Available on Instagram
