Sweat it out: Make the switch to natural deodorants

This may not apply to everyone but I personally have been relying heavily on antiperspirant deodorant for as long as I can remember. If the product could help me avoid the embarrassment of sweaty pits, I was using it. But, I’ve come to realize that it’s not that bad and these products could actually be harmful for me. According to Women’s Lifestyle, “The various aluminum compounds typically used in antiperspirants work by closing or clogging your pores to prevent the release of perspiration.” In turn this actually causes buildup underneath the skin, which can cause inflammation and foul odors.

Knowing that these products could be harmful to the body, why keep using it? Luckily, some brands have created better alternatives that are organic or natural. They use better products that not only keep you smelling fresh but can absorb moisture instead of blocking it out completely.

So, if you want to make the switch to something better for you, check out the options below.

Human Nature Deodorant Stick

Skip the antiperspirant and use a deodorant that is aluminum-free. This stick is all-natural and contains sunflower oil, which will make your skin smooth and bright. It is also enriched with ingredients that fight bacteria. Once applied it dries quickly and doesn’t feel sticky. Available at Rustan’s Supermarket branches.

Leaiania House of Beauty Eco-Deo Spray

If stick deodorants aren’t your thing, try out this spray instead. It has organic ingredients like witch hazel distillates and white willow bark extracts. These neutralize odors and preserve your skin. Using this spray will also help in removing excess oil and moisture. Available on Beauty MNL.

Tarte Clean Queen Vegan Deodorant

Aside from the cute packaging, Tarte’s vegan deodorant is also good for you. It has a hypoallergenic formula that turns from cream to powder. It is infused with aloe, which cools and conditions the skin. Even if it is a powder formula, it does not leave white streaks on your clothes. Available online.

Pili Beauty Elemie Crystal Deodorant

Pili Beauty is known for using natural ingredients and this includes their deodorant. The crystal deodorant has elemi oil, which has antibacterial properties and will keep you fresh. After getting out of the shower, add a small amount of water to the crystal and apply on your skin. Available at G-Stuff, Power Plant Mall.

Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant

This natural deodorant is free of aluminum, artificial fragrance, and propylene glycol. It has coconut oil and shea butter, which will moisturize your skin. There are other ingredients that will absorb moisture and neutralize odor. They come in a variety of scents like lavender + sage, rose + vanilla, and cedarwood + juniper. Available on iHerb.

Lush T’eo Deodorant

Try something new with this deodorant bar. Tea tree, lemongrass, juniper berry, and essential oils combat bacteria and keep you smelling good. There are also sweat-absorbing powders so you don’t have to worry when it’s hot outside. If you plan on taking this with you when you travel, pick up their oval tin. Available at Bonifacio High Street.
