Last July we couldn’t help but fawn over Heart Evangelista as she posted her trip to Paris with Crazy Rich Asians author Kevin Kwan, Rachel Yeoh, Michelle Yeoh, and Feiping Chang. We thought of it as a subplot to the famous book (and now motion picture.) And at some point, I guess we were right.
The reason (or should we say secret) as to why they were together is out—it was a feature for Harper’s Bazaar on the real crazy rich asians. Kevin spent couture fashion week with these women who regularly attend, watch, and go for couture fittings in Paris ever since we can remember. He spent time with them individually and as a group making it to be one of the most interesting trips to Paris, in our honest opinion.
Kevin described Heart as the “darling of the Philippines.” They talked about her love for couture and how she finds these beautiful creations therapeutic and very much art in its own right. Kevin even brought up how Heart started painting on her Hermès bags which apparently was because she ate cheese fries at Chili’s and didn’t realize the oils ruined her Lizard skin Birkin.
Feiping is a woman of the world being raised in Sydney and Singapore, and now resides in Hong Kong. She talks about how her grandmother only ever wore Escada and Chanel and in the end, she just simply wanted to look just like her—immaculate as always.
Sisters Michelle and Rachel were born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, but now live in London. They share stories of how their mother would take them to fashion shows every summer ever since they were 10 or 11 years old.
Now, that’s how the truly rich Asians really live and we’re just getting a taste of it. Read more about their feature on the upcoming issue of Harper’s Bazaar coming in newsstands on Aug. 21.
For now, can we just stare at Heart wearing that amazing Armani Privé Oscar feather cape? Damn, she’s gorgeous.
