The maternity wardrobe I want for my future self

Personally, I’ve never experienced being pregnant but when it comes to maternity clothes, I think I have a general idea of what moms-to-be wear. Whether you know someone who had been pregnant or gone to a store, you’ve probably come across stretchy pants and breastfeeding tops.

As comfy and practical as these clothes are, pregnant women don’t have to be limited to just those options. If you’re a funky dresser, don’t feel like you have to stop because of your growing belly. You can still rock it. If you’re hesitant, let model Slick Woods be your inspiration.

If you’re not familiar with Slick, you may have seen her ads for Fenty Beauty and Calvin Klein. Her sense of style is far from boring, and that hasn’t changed since she got married. On Instagram, she has been sharing her OOTDs and we are living for them.

Crop tops

Showing off your belly might not be the first thing you do, but Slick is all for it. In many of her pictures you will see her wearing crop tops and even bikini tops paired with low-rise pants. Wearing a crop top also makes it easier for you to feel your baby kick, which is such a precious moment.

Mesh

Slick is enjoying her pregnancy and even had some fun. Last month she attended the Afropunk Festival and dressed to impress. She wore a string bikini underneath a mesh, see-through dress and paired it with some sneakers. It was form-fitting and sheer so she was able to show off her body. The mesh material is also breezy and easy to move in so you don’t feel restricted in the middle of the day.

Pencil skirt

Scared to wear a pencil skirt? Don’t be. Just find one made of stretchy material like this yellow one Slick is wearing. It also has ruching details for added texture. You can pair this with a blouse or even a matching crop top. Kitten heels are also ideal if you want a more comfortable heel option.

Catsuit

Channel your inner Serena Williams and rock a catsuit. The one Slick decided to wear is from Rihanna’s Puma collection. It has a zipper along the front so you have an easier time getting in and out of the piece. The zip closure is also helpful for after you give birth so you can easily breastfeed your new baby.
