First dibs: Thoughts on Maine Mendoza’s exclusive MAC lipstick

Last January, it was announced that Maine Mendoza was chosen to be one of the influencers to create her very own lipstick shade—making her the very first Filipino to be a #MACMaker. Eight months later and we’re finally blessed with what could be the most coveted lipstick color in the Philippines.

Maine wanted a shade that she described as “Ganda lang” (just beautiful aka no effort). She wanted something that would be wearable and would suit different skin tones. I believe she achieved just that by choosing a muted peachy beige shade that comes in a matte finish.

During our intimate dinner last Monday, Maine and the MAC team shared animated stories about the @mainedcm lipstick—from choosing to go neutral instead of a bold color to being the only influencer who opted for a cheek tint during a shoot instead of a fully made up face. She wanted it to be simple and not outrageous, and that was also reflected on the packaging where she chose to use her own lip print by smooching a piece of bond paper multiple times.

Now, what did I think about the said lipstick?

When Maine said that she went for the nude color family, I freaked inside because that first step was good enough for me. But I’m also particular with the shades of nude that I use because I don’t want to end up looking sick instead of chic—so first swipe was crucial.

Judging by the color on the tube, it doesn’t look pale, meaning this won’t wash out our face, but rather make our skin tone pop. Upon first swipe, I was surprised with the color payoff as I didn’t expect it to be as peachy, but it did look flattering and wearable for every day.

The finish comes in matte (aka my favorite finish from MAC ever ever), but it’s definitely not drying. It won’t drag on your lips but rather go on smoothly as if it’s the Satin finish. It’s long-wearing given that I had it on from my early morning shoot up until mid-day with snacks, coffee, and a lot of chatting in between. Lemme share a no-shame selfie.

Feelin’ that BDE while wearing the @mainedcm lip!

I definitely feel that a lot of women would love this shade and should definitely have it in their arsenal.

MAC only created 20,000 pieces (limited edition, remember) and each person will only be allowed to buy 10 sticks when it launches. So if you wanna cop the @mainedcm shade, you can buy it through Lazada starting Sept. 21, in SM Megamall on Sept. 22, and all MAC Philippines stores starting Sept. 23.
