These nail art prove you don’t need long talons to have cool-looking nails

Looking through beauty and style profiles of Hollywood celebs, you might have had unconsciously subscribed to this myth: If you want fabulous nails, you gotta keep ‘em long. But there’s just one problem. Not everyone can maintain long nails. I mean, for one, there are those whose jobs can’t have them sporting talons. Shout out too, to nail-biters. And then of course, there are others who generally just aren’t comfortable with long nails, myself included. Hey, if you can relate, don’t worry. We’re here to show you your short nails can have as much pizzazz and character as Kylie Jenner’s talons. Let your nails take center stage with these design inspos.

Geometric

One way to make your nails pop is by playing with lines and shapes. Keeping those lines straight might be tricky, so be careful. If you’re intimidated by fine patterns, don’t be. Your best friend here is the scotch tape. Use them as guide to create the shapes you want. Just make sure the base color is properly dried before taping and painting again.

Minimalist chic

Sometimes being simple is enough to make a statement. Your nail art can be minimalist and still be eye-catching through your choice of color palette. You can also add interesting elements like delicate gold studs. What’s good about this type of nail art is it’s so versatile and would complement just about any outfit.

Flora and Fauna

You might be surprised with how nature-inspired nail art works so well on short nails. Floral or tropical inspired nail art looks, as you can see below, are so dreamy and dainty, you’d never want to take them off. They can get pretty complicated though as they require some hand painting skills. You’re welcome to give them a try. If it doesn’t work out, eh—you have the pegs to show your nail dresser.

Themed

Nail art is a great way to let your personality shine. Why not let your current obsession be your inspiration? Harry Potter nails, anyone? You can have them as loud and prominent or as muted and low-key as you want. You could also match them with an occasion or a holiday, say Halloween.

Abstract art

Remember, you don’t need to follow an exact pattern or image when it comes to doing your nails. Get inspired by anything and everything. Forget about rules and just have fun. Don’t worry about symmetry. All nails don’t have to have the same design—in fact, not all nails need to be painted, as you can see below. Don’t be afraid to add texture, too.

Are you reaching for your nail tools, or contacting your nail dresser yet? Don’t forget to share with us your nail art!
