Miss Japan is competing for Miss Universe in an all-Filipino wardrobe

Pageant news streaming in got us feeling excited! First it was our very own Catriona Gray jetting off to Bangkok, Thailand. Second, we find out Miss Japan Yuumi Kato opted to work with Filipino fashion designers for all her looks.

Luis Carlo San Juan for Lifestyle Inquirer broke the news that Yuumi, along with their national director Hiroko Mima (Miss Japan for Miss Universe 2008), wanted to go a different path from the usual European designer dresses. Hiroko believes in working with Asian designers because they always have a way to make a woman feel sexy and elegant. Filipino designers in particular have a way of combining western and eastern styles—plus the fact that they are very well versed in the pageant world.

Rhett Eala

The designer line up for Yuumi is exciting, she will be working with Rhett Eala (he dressed our very own Miss Philippines Maxine Medina last year), Joel Escober, Jun EscarioKC Pusing, Marv Dawson, and also a few more student designers from Slim’s.

As mentioned earlier, all of her looks will be by these Filipino designers except, of course, her national costume which was made in Japan.

We’re so, so excited to see all the looks from our very own designers, are you?
