Another day, another big decision to make: what to do with your hair.
If you’re like me—one who doesn’t necessarily go through lengths (literally) to fix my hair—you also know how it feels like to have lazy hair all day, every day.
Being the hair bums we are means we must stick to hair accessories. It’s the only way to save our lazy asses from having an even worse hair day. And we’ve got just the right accessory for you: scarves. Yep, you heard us.
Scarves are very flexible, versatile beings that can be used in many different ways with the right amount of imagination. Bag accessory? Done. Neck adornment? Sure. Hair accessory? Um, yes, please. These convenient and lovely pieces can easily tie up your whole look and save you the time trying to come up with something remotely presentable with your hair.
Don’t know how? Don’t worry. We did the work for you. All you have to do is choose.
The messy bun
No one does a messy bun better than a lazy girl. What could be easier than twisting your hair up on the top of your head? Won’t even take 10 seconds. Spice it up with your trusty scarf. If you want to keep the tails long or voluminous, only wrap your scarf around your bun once and tie; but if you’d prefer to keep the tails short, keep wrapping and tie when you’re happy with the length. Also, try to choose more floral or colorful designs that’ll make it stand out beneath your hair.
Classic ponytail
If you’re an entry-level scarf wearer, try this easy look. Reach for a long, skinny silk scarf and wrap it around a low ponytail. Pro tip: slip the scarf through an elastic hair tie, do up your pony securing the scarf at the center back, then wrap your scarf into a bow at the top.
The headband
Whether you want to tie the knot of your silk scarf at the nape of your neck, or make a statement with it, a headband is just the accessory to get the best hairdo without even trying. Classic striped scarves or one-colored pieces tied at the front of the head with an updo or pony is an easy way to add a bit of coolness to an otherwise simple outfit.
The ponytail wrap
This look feels like it was plucked off the runway—a very sophisticated look no doubt (perfect if you haven’t washed your hair in a while). Use a short, thin, scarf and wrap it down your entire ponytail. Make sure to use a scarf with fun colors or patterns!
Weave through the braids
Jonathan Cohen rocked New York Fashion Week with these braids, and you can sport the look off the runway yourself. Wrap your scarf around the beginning of your ponytail, part your hair into your braid sections and start weaving away, including the tails of the scarf in the process. It’ll make the scarf blend nicely with your hair, as if you were growing them yourself.
The bandana
This one throws it back to a 2000s style icon: Lizzie McGuire. The middle school heroine was rarely seen without a tie-dye bandana, nor will you be from here on. Choose an oversized silk square in a chic print, fold it diagonally in half, and tie it over your hair tucking the center corner inside.
Top bow
Instead of using silk, try a larger, knit rectangular scarf for this look. Wrap it around your head, then tie a large bow in the front. Like Nneka Julia, we suggest using a bright, solid scarf instead of a printed one. A saturated hue helps define the bow’s shape.
