Give the ‘90s glossy lip a try for the new year

The ’90s resurgence isn’t over yet. One of the biggest trend predictions for 2020 is the comeback of the lip liner and lip gloss combo.

According to 2019 Pinterest stats, the search results for “lip gloss and liner” went up by 144 percent. It’s not surprising considering that several ’90s trends have popped up in the last couple of years. In case you aren’t familiar with the ’90s glossy lip, it’s where you follow the natural shape of your lips with a liner—no over-lining!—and top it with a gloss that’s lighter or of the same shade.

Beyoncé was spotted donning this look, which can probably explain the Pinterest search spike.

If you want to get into this beauty trend by 2020, here are some pairings you can try.

Nude

Shop: The Saem Saemmul Longwear Multi Lip Pencil in Loli Coral (Available at SM Megamall) + Blk Cosmetics Birthday Sparkle Gloss in Confetti (Available at Glorietta 2)

For a “my lips but better” look, combine The Saem’s lip pencil in Loli Coral and Blk’s Birthday Sparkle Gloss. The latter has a shimmery blush hue suitable for different skin tones.

Brown

Shop: Laura Mercier Longwear Lip Liner in Chocolate Red (Available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source) + It Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush in Perfect Nude (Available on Sephora PH)

The ’90s (and even the early ’00s) were all about the brown lip. A lot of women lined their lips with a darker color like Laura Mercier’s lip liner in Chocolate Red, finishing off with a lighter brown shade like It Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush in Perfect Nude.

Pink

Shop: Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Liner in Totally Toffee (Available at SM Makati) + Happy Skin Gloss Vibe Cooling Lip Gloss in Cotton Candy (Available at Greenbelt 5)

You don’t have to go for a hot pink shade for this. Maybelline’s Totally Toffee is a light brown shade that can add dimension to Happy Skin’s candy-colored gloss. What’s great about the lip gloss is that it doesn’t have glitter but still adds a sheen to the lips. It also has mint extract for a cooling effect.

Red

Shop: Colourpop Lippie Pencil in Bichette (Available online) + TheBalm Read My Lips Lip Gloss in Wow! (Available at Beauty Bar)

Make your look stand out with a bold glossy red lip. You can create an ombré using Colourpop Lippie Pencil in Bichette, a deep red shade, and top it off with TheBalm’s opaque lip gloss in Wow!.
