Is peplum making a comeback at the 2020 Oscars?

The much-awaited awards night for the film industry has just concluded. The 92nd Academy Awards was a star-studded night—celebrating the past year’s amazing films, filmmakers and actors.

Just like every awards show, there’s going to be a red carpet event before it. And while we’re all still amazed at how Natalie Portman clapped back at the Oscars’ female director snub, it’s hard not to notice how there’s a trend comeback.

According to the Wall Street Journal, peplums have been a recurring trend which started around mid-90s. The last time it was a trend was in 2011, thanks to Jil Sander’s influential Spring 2011 women’s collection.

Here are some of the peplum outfits from this year’s Oscars red carpet:

Saoirse Ronan caught everyone’s attention as she graced the red carpet in a black, cream and lavender Gucci peplum gown—with a plunging neckline.

After portraying journalist Megyn Kelly in “Bombshell,” Charlize Theron stood tall in her figure-hugging black Dior custom dress. With just a subtle peplum action and a thigh-high slit, she owned the red carpet.

After joking around about her past Oscars looks a few days prior, Kelly Ripa elevated her red carpet game with an off-shoulder peplum black gown by Christian Siriano.

Florence Pugh was all smiles at the red carpet in a stunning belted Louis Vuitton turquoise dress with a low neck and peplum details from the waist down.

It may be Irish actress Caitriona Balfe’s first time attending the Oscars, but she sure fits right in with a beautiful Valentino black mermaid gown with a pink chiffon top. With a bow just above her left shoulder, it’s truly a gift to have her support “Ford v Ferrari.”

Which trend do you think will be revived next?
