The Korean glass skin trend has inspired a variety of beauty trends from the 10-step skincare routine to cream skin. But aside from trying to get luminous skin, some are also giving themselves glass nails.
This trend has been around since 2015. Korean nail artist Eun Kyung-park created the technique by using strips of colored cellophane to create a “broken glass” effect on the nails. It became an instant hit on Instagram when Eun first shared her nail art that had a holographic shift to it.
Meanwhile, others’ glass nails have a stained glass look to them, especially when the cellophane is placed over dark nail polish.
Fast forward to 2020 and glass nails seem to be making a comeback. It’s probably because people keep checking Instagram for new manicure ideas to do while in quarantine. Plus, this trend is pretty easy to do since all you need is nail polish of your choice, a clear top coat and pieces of cellophane or foil.
If you’re looking to change up your manicure, here’s a quick DIY guide:
1. Cut out the cellophane/foil “shards” you’ll attach to your nails.
2. Apply a base color or a clear base for your manicure. You can use any nail polish that you have at home. (If you’re feeling creative, you can use different colors on each finger.)
3. Using tweezers, strategically place the shards on your nails to create a broken glass effect.
4. Once you’re done, lock everything in with a thick top coat and let your nails dry.
And voila, you have shimmery glass nails sans the glitter. If you’re looking for more inspiration, you can do this over seafoam green or milky white nail polish.
You can also add a bit of color to your usual nude manicure.
