Translating runway trends into every day staples and looks is a bit hard. It’s a task set-up for those who see past the hype and into what the designer or artist is really trying to convey. In his short visit to Manila, MAC senior makeup artist John Stapleton, who has worked behind the scenes for New York Fashion Week with Tom Pecheux and Charlotte Tilbury helped us make the runway makeup looks more wearable.
“Trend is washable,”John tells us. “It’s easy to adapt to it and then change when you want to. I think that’s the important thing people have to remember when they are trying out a new trend. You don’t have to always stick to what you know but also you can do whatever you’re comfortable with and amp it up a little bit more.” One morning in the Preen HQ, John, who is used to creating a full makeup look in two minutes because of the speed by which runway shows run on, recreated six looks from the latest fall/winter presentations and gave us suggestions on how we can so wear them without looking crazy.
