For Blackpink, fashion is just as important as music. Since the group’s debut in 2016, members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa have all extended fashion influences to their solo careers and social media, as well as numerous editorials and appearances.
The group is known for its in-your-face, fashion-forward aesthetics, which have evolved from the hip college girl looks in “Boombayah” to the elevated, reassured women we see at the end of “Lovesick Girls.” Each of their music videos also serve as catalogues and lookbooks—almost like a fashion film set to the group’s hit songs.
Through the years, the members and their team have mastered the art of incorporating individual characters to a seamless, cohesive girl group brand. Just like how Spice Girls are more known for their monikers—Scary, Sporty, Baby, Ginger, and Posh—a scroll through Blackpink’s Instagram accounts will easily tell you that they also go by Dior, Chanel, Saint Laurent, and Celine.
The Modern Woman
Lead vocalist Jisoo embodies a timeless, feminine elegance that is accentuated by her understated beauty. She is not afraid to embrace different facets of femininity—something she shares with Dior—blooming from a bubbly, girly girl persona to a refined woman with mature sensibilities. For 2021, she even served as key inspiration in Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s fall collection.
Inside Blackpink, Jisoo is often seen in sweetheart necklines and cinched waists, academic silhouettes like Peter Pan collars, as well as dainty hair accessories and hats. She also has an affinity for puffed sleeves like the For Love & Lemons bustier top she paired with a Dior choker for a performance of “How You Like That.”
The It Girl
It’s not surprising that main rapper Jennie is popularly known as “Human Chanel.” After all, she doesn’t just sport trends, she sets them—much like the fashion house. Her contemporary yet trendy style resonates with so many people that she’s able to make a tangible impact on pop culture, as seen with her iconic two-toned “headband bangs” that soon went viral around the world.
Jennie often sports Chanel and other editorial designer pieces with pure dedication. For instance, in a spread she did for Vogue Korea last March (which she conceptualized and edited herself), she wears top-to-bottom Chanel denim. Her solo debut single “Solo” also saw her in pieces like Chanel’s limited edition swimsuit and Adam Selman’s “Carlotta” dress.
The Playgirl
With the ability to shift from sweet romantic girl-next-door to subtle rocker-chic bohème, main vocalist Rosé remains true to her roots as a musician with a wide range of influences. She embodies a cool, laid-back vibe with an artistic edge, which is further highlighted in her work as muse for Saint Laurent. She follows the footsteps of other confident, edgy women like Zoë Kravitz and Blondie’s Debbie Harry.
Though Rosé has often been seen in form-fitting dresses and miniskirts recently, she can still be found in her signature dreamy palettes of long, flowing ruffles, like the one she wore for her “On The Ground” video. In her solo debut, she paired her hot pink silk gown at the end with a motorcycle jacket from Saint Laurent—a testament to her cheeky chic style.
The Girl Crush
Bold and charismatic are probably the first two words everyone has in mind when talking about main dancer Lisa. You usually see her in street-inspired outfits, often with a tomboyish edge. She’s also a true fashion chameleon with a dynamic sense of style that goes well with her spunky stage persona. On stage, she performs with a carefree attitude—fitting for Celine’s youthful and energetic brand.
Lisa is often draped in layers of different textures and colors that can easily catch your eyes. She loves wearing vests and fur coats like the ones seen in the music videos for “Playing With Fire” and “How You Like That.” In a performance of “Lovesick Girls,” she wears a loose, striped cardigan from Celine, secured by a corset and a statement belt.
