In 2021, size inclusivity is still an ongoing project in the fashion industry. With the popularity of Shein and other online shopping platforms, it’s been easier to find garments that come in a full range of sizes. But those who are looking to buy locally still find it a struggle—and don’t even get us started on body-shaming sellers.
Swimwear shopping shouldn’t be extra hard for our fat and skinny pals. Colourette’s outspoken CEO Nina Ellaine Dizon-Cabrera is familiar with the struggle and hopes to help out with her new brand called Every Body.
Dizon-Cabrera announced the upcoming launch of Every Body with a personal note. “Dahil nahihirapan ako makabili ng magandang swimsuit sa size ko, gumawa nalang ako. 😅,” she tweeted on Dec. 6. “Here’s Every Body. A Filipina-led clothing brand that caters to sizes 5XL-2XS. Yup, 10 sizes. ❤️👙 Soft launching on Dec 15!”
Dizon-Cabrera is a known body and skin positivity advocate who isn’t shy about shutting down her detractors. In the past, she has also butted heads with President Rodrigo Duterte’s supporters (DDS) who retaliated by using a meme to make fun of her. She did get the last laugh with a donation drive that raised over a million pesos for those affected by last year’s series of typhoons.
Every Body is a step in the right direction and, luckily, it isn’t the only size inclusive local swimwear brand in the metro.
Float Swimwear is an independentthat produces chic swimsuits in sizes XS through 3XL. From puff-sleeved bikinis to peekaboo surf suits, their collections are stylish and sexy.
Helen Piece is a premium swimwear brand with an exciting range of silhouettes and palettes. The garments are in sizes XS through 3XL, but are available in made-to-measure.
Skinni prides itself for being size- and age-inclusive. The brand’s pieces have prints that are said to be an ode to the Philippine marine ecosystem and are offered in sizes S through 3XL.
Other size-inclusive local swimwear labels that should be on your radar are Nekid Swimwear (XS through 2XL), Alba Manila (S through 2XL), Negritas (XS through XL), and I Love Koi (XS through 3XL).
