Katy Perry Ditches Her Dancing Sharks for Gingerbread Men in New Campaign

In her new holiday commercial for retail powerhouse H&M, Katy Perry gifts us all with her signature kitsch. And with great attention to gaudy details come a cast of dancing inanimate objects, loads of snow, and a topless guy unaffected by the cold. Oh, don’t you love the weirdness of it all?
The two-minute ad could easily pass for a Katy Perry video for a forgettable track. The film is peppered with cartoonish characters armed with seemingly simple moves. It’s like the choreographer told them to prance around, leap on set, and call it a day. Looks legit.
Directed by Gaga collaborator Jonas Akerlund, the commercial also features Katy’s short seasonal song “Every Day Is a Holiday.” It sounds like a cheery offshoot of her past hit “Firework,” only made with less questionable lines.
But apart from the concept, the singer showcases the clothes, which aren’t all that bad compared to most predictable holiday-themed collections. (Though we’re not sure if we like that glittered bow shirt she has on… Wait, no, we don’t.)
Back in July, Katy took to Instagram to announce that she’ll be fronting the brand’s upcoming #HappyandMerry holiday campaign. And just weeks ago, H&M finally dropped her campaign pics, wherein we get a closer look of the clothes coming in as well.
