Confession: I’m obsessed with watching smokey eye tutorials. It’s just one of those makeup tricks which uses black, white, and gray eyeshadow, but gives so much dimension to the eyes every time.
Going back to makeup tutorials, prominent beauty vloggers like Jeffree Star have put their own spin on the classic smokey eye. It’s not just the usual gray eye shadow anymore—you can put more edge and drama to your eyes to make it pop. With that, we’ve got a few tips and products that you can use to enhance that smokey eye.
#1 More color, the better
Aside from black and white, you can also use bright colors, even nude tones, for your smokey eye look. You can choose a color from Maybelline’s Blushed Nudes palette (P675) and brush some on the inner corners of your lids. After that, use a darker hue to smoke out the edges. This trick is ideal for when you want to soften up your look without losing that edge.

#2 Add some shimmer
For those of you who want to go full-on glam, you can pat on some Make Up Store Glitter (P1,079) on your lid.
Make Up Store. Available at Sephora PH. For more information, visit theirwebsite.
#3 Experiment with bold liners
Put away your go-to black eyeliner for a while and try using colorful ones like this blue-green Sigma Beauty Gel Liner (P670). It will surely give your peepers that unique and quirky oomph you need.

#4 The white pencil trick
First of all, before I started watching makeup tutorials, I had no idea that white eyeliners, like the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk (P300), exist. And if you’re wondering how it’ll elevate your smokey eye, you can apply it on your lower lash line or just the inner corner. This’ll make your eyes look brighter and somewhat bigger.
NYX. Available at SM North EDSA and Zalora. For more information, visit their website.
#5 Volumize those lashes
A good swipe of mascara like the Benefit They’re Real! Lengthening Mascara (P1,400) is like the cherry on top of any smokey eye look. It’ll add volume to your lashes, and you’ll look wide awake all day. But don’t forget to curl them first!
Benefit. Available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source, Glorietta 4, Alabang Town Center, and Greenbelt 5. For a complete list of stores and more information, visit their website.
#6 Don’t forget the brows!
To round it all up, you need to shape and fill in your brows. Since the smokey eye is already bold, you can draw a softer-looking brow using Happy Skin’s Bullseye Perfect Brow Trio (P899).
Happy Skin. Available at Greenbelt 5, Glorietta 3, TriNoma, and Powerplant Mall. For a complete list of stores and more information, visit their website.
