Where Can You Find the Only Authentic Mexican Taqueria in Manila?

In a world where generic tacos and burritos exist, it’s always nice to look for a place that serves authentic Mexican food. Luckily, one just opened a few months ago and a writer from Munchies tried it out during a vacation in Manila.

Lo de Alberto, which is located at City Golf, Pasig City, is run by Mexican-born chef Balam Nazar who uses both Latin-American and local ingredients to make their food just right for the Filipino palate.

“It wasn’t easy. At the beginning they wanted me to just prepare Tex-Mex food, but I got them to make some concessions and that’s how we started to put together a menu of real tacos,” Balam tells Munchies. He also admits that it was difficult to look for the right ingredients like cheese and corn tortillas, but he managed by experimenting with flavors and finding the right suppliers.

He adds that he makes his own salsa, as well as pork butter made from liempo.

So did the food live up to the writer’s expectations? She writes that it reminded her of authentic Yucatán dishes on Philippine soil, which sounds good enough for us. We also heard that they serve strong margaritas, so you’ll know where to find us during happy hour.
