I’ve done this once for the men, so now I’m doing it for the ladies. We’ve heard of the stereotypes: the classy chic, the edgy fierce, the preppy geek, the casual easy-go-lucky girl, and the sultry seductress. The list goes on but whatever your style is, I’m pretty sure you’ll find one that suits your personality from the Milan women’s spring/summer fashion shows. Here are some trends as seen straight from the runway and presentations.
Breathtaking as a Butterfly
Whether referred to as the butterfly print itself or the puffy sleeves reminiscent to a modernized Filipiniana terno, Italian brands like Bottega Veneta, Jil Sander, and Salvatore Ferragamo sent out this trend to the runway. Bottega Veneta, which by the way celebrated its 50th year anniversary during fashion week, revived its iconic butterfly on leather bags for accessories.
Feminine in Florals
Florals both in vivid colors and soft prints were a big hit for Salvatore Ferragamo, Fendi, and Dolce and Gabbana with its over the top styling. Adding to this dainty trend was the iris and hummingbird theme for next season’s Jimmy Choo presentation. Ornate studded flower petals and mother-of-pearl detailing were seen on the bags and shoes.
Vivacious as a Vixen
Skin-tight dresses and leggings are foreseen to have a huge comeback for next year’s summer shenanigans. No one beats the queen of sexy as Donatella Versace masterfully cut contrasting see-through and opaque black evening shift-dresses. Leggings, which help elongate the legs were key pieces in the Trussardi and Max Mara shows.
Excited for Eccentricity
Gucci which is known for its eccentric ’70s style amped up its dosage of quirky humor. Moschino played with life-size paper doll clothes and Prada on the other hand, juxtaposed boxy Grandpa vests with playful feather skirts. For accessories, Alessandro Enriquez brings us to wonderland with his colorful unicorn-themed bags while Martina Grasselli for Coliac creates dreamy patent leather shoes in a metallic starry motif.
Pretty in Prints
Emilio Pucci sent down sun dresses in bold psychedelic prints, Roberto Cavalli created airy layered dresses in its signature boho chic designs and Missoni didn’t fail to deliver newer variations of its striped and zigzag patterns. In the Maliparmi presentation, ethnic-inspired accessories take center stage: three-dimensional beaded clutch bags and bijoux adorned Birkenstock sandals.
Crazy for Color Pop
Bold vibrant summer hues dominated the runways for MSGM while eye-candy color blocking was Fausto Puglisi and Atsushi Nakashima’s trend game. Bally creative designer Pablo Coppola evokes the cheery season in his brightly colored accessories. Shoes and bags in mouth-watering colors like bubblegum pink and cherry red were seen during the presentation.
Sultry in Sheer
There is nothing more seductive than an alluring sheet of sheer tulle and lace. At the ateliers of Ermanno Scervino, Alberta Ferreti and Alberto Zambelli, flowy and ethereal gowns in a multitude of colors, from pastels to blacks and whites, were envisioned to be the It-clothing items for next season. Perfect for summer night-outs and parties.
