Dim red lights shrouded us as bulky trench coats and bomber jackets made its way on the runway. It’s not the best choice if you’re looking to wear something for the summer. These are, however, for those who are willing to bend some fashion rules—and that’s exactly what Proudrace did for the second day of Bench Fashion Week.
“[It’s called] ‘Re-Edition.’ It’s appropriation of all pieces of previous collections, and pieces you see every day, like jackets, but we distorted it to make it look like our own,” Rik Rasos, Proudrace creative director, tells us.
Proudrace utilized tailoring techniques to reconstruct using patterns from previous menswear collections. There were hoods added to alpha bomber jackets, a denim jacket turned into a trench coat, and scarves made from the same thick material as their outerwear pieces.
They also brought out their first “Proudrace bride” wearing a white jacket, jeans, and a veil hoodie. “We thought of doing a bride because back in the `90s, fashion shows would always end with one. So, why not do it today?” Rik says. Although we won’t be seeing a bridal collection from them soon, this was the best way to top a collection that isn’t bound by traditional streetwear rules.
