How Will New Creative Head Claire Waight Keller Change Up Givenchy?

Givenchy has named former Chloé designer Clare Waight Keller as their new artistic director. She is now the second female designer taking the creative lead at an LVMH couture house. So, what can we expect from this new direction?

For 12 years, Riccardo Tisci came out with high-octane embellished pieces that resonated with stars like Madonna, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye West. With Clare taking over, the brand is expecting a dramatic shift.

Clare was Chloé’s creative director since 2011 and stepped down earlier this month. She’s known for her calm manner and interest in the arts. The Business of Fashion writes that her success at Chloé “was rooted in her ability to deliver wearable, desirable garments—and perhaps most importantly, high-margin shoes and handbags—that moved at retail.”

Although Clare has no background in haute couture, Givenchy might just get an upgrade with their accessories. They haven’t released a hit bag since Riccardo’s “Nightingale” after all, and Clare has an eye for designing accessories.

I guess we’ll see how Clare will change up Givenchy’s scheme once she presents her first collection in October for Paris spring/summer 2018.
