You may have seen everywhere how ’90s fashion is making a comeback in a big way. While we’re thankful to add patches to our pieces and dress like the girls from Clueless, other childhood favorites have also surfaced. Some of them we thought we’d forget about for a long time.
These pieces may look grown-up now, but it still gives you that nostalgic feeling of when you were a pre-teen. The question is: Would you wear these again or choose to leave them in the past?
Barrettes
Recent runways and celebrity spottings showed us that barrettes are definitely a must-have accessory this season. These take us back to the times we go to school with a bold clip to hold our hair to the side. Sometimes we even do the center part hairstyle like Bella Hadid.
Scrunchies
Another hair accessory that’s coming back is the scrunchie. The chunky hair tie comes in different colors, sizes, and even works as a bracelet if you want it to—just like how we remembered it. Today also noted that scrunchies are better because they “come in cool fabrics like chambray and velvet—making them feel more like a fun accessory than a convenience-driven elastic shackle.” Bella is also loving this nostalgic hair accessory, as well as Selena Gomez and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Character shirts
We’ve seen how beauty brands created products inspired by cartoon characters. Now, these well-loved childhood characters have also made their way to our wardrobe. For Moschino’s spring 2018 collection, they sent down My Little Pony tops and lunch boxes. Lisa Frank and Polly Pocket also came out with their own lines for adults. While they do look cute, not a lot of women are on board with the idea. As Racked pointed out, the pieces can make one look like toddlers. But to each her own, right?
Overalls
This piece takes me back to playground dates, and the fun of layering it with different shirts each time. Overalls also remind me of Anna Chlumsky’s adorable outfits on My Girl. Today, this is considered a basic piece that you can pair with any top and shoes. You can also add a grown-up element by wearing heels like Olivia Culpo.
Jelly shoes
Thanks to Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma collab, jelly shoes became cool again. The plastic footwear became popular because of their bright candy colors. I’m personally not a fan of how these shoes feel and I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing it outdoors. But if you’re still into their transparent and colorful style, Vogue has a list of jelly shoes you can cop.
Bubble skirts
Bubble skirts also proved to be a spring 2018 runway favorite thanks to Saint Laurent, Mary Katrantzou, and Erdem. What makes these skirts unique are their rounded puffy hems. They’re basically like quirky cheerleader skirts, and Amal Clooney apparently owns one.
