Is Suede the New Velvet?

Velvet has been taking over the fashion world. From swimsuits to kimonos, brands have found ways to incorporate the soft material into any garment. If you’re just about done with this trend, here’s another material that has slowly been making its way back into stores and on runways: suede.

Recently, Sue Ramirez wore a green jumpsuit made of suede-like material to a TV appearance. Paired with nude heels, her outfit looked classy. Like velvet, suede doesn’t just give clothing texture but dimension as well as the colors can look different under different lights.

Gigi Hadid is a fan of the material as well. As part of her collaboration with Stuart Weitzman, she has released three pairs of mules with a suede upper and leather insole. They come in three different colors: deep indigo, frosted gray, and ballet tan. These can be a nice addition to your wardrobe but just remember not to wear them when it rains.

Suede has also made its way to the runway. Tan suede boots were part of Yeezy Season 5 while a brown leisure suit was seen at fall/winter Chloé show.

Denim brand AG also used suede pieces to spruce up their collection. As part of their fall show, they presented a brown suede jacket with fringe detail and silver buttons

Looking at these runway photos and celebrity shots, we can see why they are starting to gravitate towards suede. It can be worn on any type of garment, in any color, and style. Whether you choose streetwear or luxury, try to make suede your new go-to.
