Bullet Lipsticks Are Coming Back and We’re Not Complaining

When liquid lipsticks became popular a few years ago, it seemed like a gamechanger for makeup lovers. You get the same pigment and finish from a traditional bullet lipstick, and sometimes even better. This is also why cult brands like Kylie Cosmetics and ColourPop thrived thanks to their products.

This year, there seems to be a shift as bullet lipsticks are becoming popular again. Harper’s Bazaar noted that it’s thanks to Kylie Cosmetics‘ newest bullet lipstick line. And just this week, ColourPop also announced the release of their 24-shade Lux Lipstick collection. You can also see the recent rise of bullet lipsticks with releases from brands like Pat McGrath Labs, Fenty Beauty, BLK Cosmetics, and Kat Von D Beauty.

It’s clear that the liquid lipstick powerhouses are leaning in another direction. Although the liquid variation isn’t going away just yet, you have to admit that the traditional bullet still has its perks. Liquid Courage Cosmetics listed that unlike most liquid lipsticks, bullets don’t dry down super matte. Hence, your lips will feel more hydrated and the color is easier to remove.

Fair enough. So this might be a sign to mix up your lip products and add these recent releases in your kit.

Kylie Cosmetics Crème Lipstick

Just like the other Kylie Cosmetics products, the crème lipsticks almost sold out on the first day. They’re said to have a smooth and creamy formula, and have a satin finish. If you want to snag one, you better do it now as only a few shades are available (as of writing). Available online.

MAC Viva Glam Sia

You can now get Sia’s collab with MAC Viva Glam. The bright red lipstick was revealed on World AIDS Day last December. All the proceeds from sales will go to the MAC AIDS Fund, so this is a bullet lipstick that’ll help a lot of people worldwide. Available at Rustan’s The Beauty Souce.

Kat Von D Beauty Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick

Kat Von D recently relaunched her 40-shade Studded Kiss collection with a brand new formula. It’s known for its “super-creamy” and lightweight texture, as well as highly pigmented colors, which last the whole day. The shade range goes from wearable nudes and reds to unique colors like white and blue. Available on Sephora PH.

Bésame Cosmetics 1935 – Cherry Red Lipstick

Bésame has made a name for itself with its vintage-style cosmetics. The lipsticks themselves are said to be “true replicas” of shades used in certain eras. Cherry Red, for example, is a deep, rich color which can also be applied as a lip stain. It also comes in a semi-matte formula and promises “one coat full coverage.” Available online.

ColourPop Lux Lipsticks

These lipsticks aren’t even out yet but we’re feeling the excitement from social media to the beauty vloggers who’ve tested these out. The Lux Lipsticks have glossy, semi-matte, and true matte finishes, and come in starry tubes. But the best part is that it will only retail for $7 (around P350)! Available online starting Jan. 31.

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick

Rihanna’s lipsticks may not have the traditional bullet look, but it still has the same concept. They come in slim tubes and the colors are lightweight and longwearing. If you’ve seen beauty vloggers test these out, you’ll know how pigmented the colors are with just one swipe. Available on Sephora PH.
