Chrissy Teigen is not here for anyone’s bullsh*t, even her own. She always gets candid with everything and anything that’s happening to her life both as a mom and an actress/host. The other day, she showed a glimpse of her self-care routine and the other bits of it are pretty relatable, except the last one which involves steaming your vagina.
Her caption goes, “Face mask / Heat pad / Vagina steam. No, I don’t know if any of this works but it can’t hurt right? *vagina dissolves*”
Vagina steaming went mainstream when Gwyneth Paltrow started raving about the benefits in her Goop travel guide. “The real golden ticket here is the Mugworth V-Steam: You sit on what is essentially a mini-throne, and a combination of infrared and mugwort steam cleanses your uterus, et al. It is an energetic release.”
As Glamour reports, it’s not widely supported by the medical community. And that our vaginas are self-sufficient and can cleanse and work her magic without other unnecessary steps. Katharine O’Connell White also said that, “For many women, the vagina and vulva are pretty sensitive to chemicals (even ones that come from herbs—’all natural’ is still not natural for your lady parts). Who wants to run the risk of steam burns, or vaginitis from a reaction to the herbs? Your vagina is wonderful the way it is—regular showers are all you need to be clean—you don’t need special (and pricey) services to keep yourself clean and healthy.”
If you want to try Chrissy and Gwyneth’s vagina steam, then go for it. But make sure you check in and have it approved by your OB-GYNE first.
