Céline says good-bye to the “É”

French fashion house Céline is known for their leather bags and RTW pieces. Now, under the creative helm of Hedi Slimane, made some major changes. One of them was slightly changing the name to “Celine.”

You may be thinking that there’s no difference. But actually, they removed the accented E (é) to bring back Celine’s logo in the 1960’s.

According to Celine’s Instagram post, it was “to enable a simplified, more balanced proportion, evoking the Celine collections of the 1960’s where the accent wasn’t used often.” They further explained how the letters are placed more closely together and that pieces will have “Paris” written on the logo. Celine’s previous logo shows longer letters and is more spaced out.

This change coincides with the news that Lady Gaga is carrying a new bag from Celine. Many call it Hedi’s “debut” since he hasn’t launched a collection yet.

Maybe this is also Hedi’s way to make the brand name less complicated, but that’s just a guess. What do you think of the change?
