The Miss Universe preliminaries continued last night. Catriona Gray broke the Internet with her slow-mo twirl during the swimsuit competition. But you know what really caught our eye? Her evening gown.
It was a Mak Tumang piece inspired by the Ibong Adarna, a Filipino mythological creature, and the Mikimoto Crown. The strapless and backless gown was made copper feathers and crystals to mimic the appearance of a phoenix.
“Catriona has a resilient, tenacious, and unwavering spirit. Her voice is truly captivating, literally and figuratively,” Mak wrote on Instagram. He continued with how Catriona would use this voice to influence Filipinos and make them proud.
But that’s not the final gown that Catriona will wear for the pageant on Dec. 17. He also shared sketches of four others on his Facebook account, but didn’t reveal which ones Catriona will wear.
According to ABS-CBN News, Catriona’s final three gowns were made in over 113 days and the materials cost P1,025,091. If the Ibong Adarna gown already looked elegant, what more the other pieces?
