Primer balms take the hassle out of base application

A lot of makeup looks require a primer to prep the skin for all the products you’ll put on your face. Some time last year, beauty gurus couldn’t stop raving about the Tatcha The Silk Canvas, a balm-like primer that smooths out the skin and minimizes pores. People swear that it works—so much that it sold out multiple times.

Since it might take a miracle to cop the Silk Canvas primer, many have opted to find dupes that have the same balmy quality. It seems that people now prefer primers that are less liquid-y and can be carried in a travel-friendly tin.

Looking for one that fits your skin type and needs? Check out the list below.

Innisfree No Powder Sebum Cream

If you’re obsessed with Innisfree’s sebum control mineral powder, you might want to try its cream counterpart. This promises to minimize excess oil production and blurs out texture and minor imperfections. You’ll be left with a matte canvas for your base makeup. Available at SM Mall of Asia.

Snoe Beauty Super Base Silky Complexion Balm

Snoe Beauty’s primer balm contains collagen which helps in repairing damaged skin cells and evens out pigmentations when used continuously. It also controls oil, hence, preventing the onset of pimples on your skin. Available at Landmark, TriNoma.

3CE Pore Silky Balm

Worried about your skin looking bumpy over your makeup? 3CE’s Pore Silky Balm promises to address that by concealing “rough, bumpy skin for a smooth canvas finish.” It also leaves a moisturizing layer on the skin to keep it hydrated all day. Available on Sephora PH.

Benefit Cosmetics Dr. Feelgood Mattifying Balm

Matte skin doesn’t have to be dry-looking. This primer balm from Benefit will give skin a silky-soft finish by smoothing out the appearance of fine lines. The brand also claims that it’s even great when you’re not wearing any makeup. Available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source.

e.l.f Prep & Hydrate Balm

Get rid of dry-looking skin by swiping this stick balm before applying makeup. This is infused with shea butter, cocoa, aloe, and grape to help hydrate skin and lessen texture. Available on Make Up Depot PH.
